Deer hunting begins at Raincrow the middle of September and continues through late December. The rut in Southern Missouri usually occurs around mid November.
We have numerous shooting houses strategically located in connection with food plots. These comfortable, permanent, enclosed stands are the luxury way to go. The ultimate in concealment plus the bonus of comfort. These stands are primarily used for gun hunts or for filming and photography.
In August each year we take great care in the placement of approximately 40 tree stands. These go up in connection with food sources, traveling corridors, bedding areas, and water holes.
The stands are moved routinely as food sources and scouting information changes throughout the season. We use a combination of Rivers Edge and Ol' Man Treestands. Various stand placements and heights can accommodate rifle and muzzleloader, but are primarily for archery.
Our typical deer hunts are 4 days. Most hunters seem to prefer dividing their day into a morning and afternoon hunt. However, it is our desire to make your hunting experience all that it can be and we will accommodate your preferences.
Some have hunted midmorning to mid afternoon, or have even packed a lunch to spend the day at a shooting house. We take you directly to the stand and pick you up at a specified time.
In addition, we utilize a radio system so if you take a shot or need to come in, you can reach us by radio. All bow hunts allow you to hunt solo, while a guide accompanies rifle and muzzleloader hunters.
Our aim is to give you a totally personal hunt while taking into account your needs and preferences. For this reason, we only take 2-4 hunters at a time and do not mix groups.
You will never feel like a number or even a client, you will feel like a personal friend and invited guest. You will carry away with you the warm memories of having shared camp with new and old friends. A typical hunting day goes like this . . . we wake you before daylight to coffee, juice, and warm biscuits or muffins. You are taken personally to your stand.
We then pick you up around 10 am and you come back to the house for a big ranch style breakfast and sharing of the early hunt.
Many choose to nap or relax before the afternoon hunt. We then take you back to a stand until dark. After dark and the trailing of any deer, we gather back at the ranch house for a hearty dinner and the opportunity to share your experience.
Most choose early to bed over available racquetball, pool, or videos and we begin again the next day.
In an attempt to further accommodate you, we have an excellent local meat processor and taxidermist. We will happily get your trophy whitetail deer and venison to the right place and both can be shipped to you.
